Are EVs really bad and impractical? It seems to me that charging an EV at home at night and at parking lot at your workplace from a standard AC outlet would be more than enough for 95% of drivers. And installing regular AC outlets at every parking lot instead of expensive fast chargers looks much more reasonable.

A radical idea: hang exposed wires high above road, add a long stick to every electric car so it reaches the wire and makes contact. Less batteries and complex electronics for them needed = cheaper cars, no need to wait until it during day, just sit and drive.

>Are EVs really bad and impractical? If you don't have a detached full-sized garage with decent power connections of your own at home then yes it's very bad and super impractical. If you have such a garage and also have a backup ICE car then a EV car might be a ok option for all your short in city/town trips. For EVERYONE else the only EV I would recommend is something like a E-bike, preferably with a removable battery. E-bikes are legitimately pretty good. A car will not fit your use case if you don't have your own garage, and even if you do, it's only safe if it's a detached garage. Otherwise it will fuck your home and auto insurance.

EVs don't have the range and are bad in winter. And although they're cheape in the long run bernd it's an initial investment. You need to buy a charger that costs anywhere from $200-$1000 dollars and due to the car battery in case of car accidents your car insurance will be astronomically high. They remind me a lot of solar panels. You get the tax credit then play a waiting game while praying for it to finally pay off. Hybrids can help you you make long journeys often or are just paranoid? Like an EV really is tied down to charging stations.

You can get 42km/hour from charging a car with 240V/32A charger, so charging with 240V/13A gives 17km/hour. 16 hours of charging give 272km and 50kWh. Average daily commute distance in EU is 35km, in US 67km, so 16 hours of slow charging can give 4-7 days of commuting. Distance per 1kWh is 5.44km, amount of energy required to ride 100km is 18.3kWh. The rest depends on cost of fuel and electricity in your area.
