the downside of ignoring it is that they invest more money in ads than they invest in the development, and the original idea comes from the glowniggers, not from the marketing department
so ignoring it is not an optimal choice
I think people need a "golden raspberry" award of sorts, for all projects with large advertisement budgets
movies, tv-series, games, whatever
if the advertisement budget can buy you an island, the project should be nominated
i'd call it USAIDS or USCANCER
