universally across an overwhelming majority of indo-european populations the oak was always portrayed as the tree of the highest god. whether it was greeks, slavs, germanics, celts, it was always the oak why is that? what causes this phenomenon?

I fully believe that trees are sentient and can communicate with people through unconventional ways. People back in the day knew this better than us that's why they appointed different characteristics to different trees. Fig trees are evil, oak trees are divine, redwoods are wise etc.

Tolkien wrote about the importance of the word eich/oak. As children we sit under it. As adults we marry under it. It puts our civilization in perspective. The oak takes a long time to grow. It takes patience and planning. Someone who only wants monetary profits would never want to plant an oak tree. A person who cares about his cilivization, on the other hand, would plant lots of oak trees. They are simply beautiful trees.
