If I had an autistic or socially-stunted brother, cousin, uncle, etc., I would do something, anything, to keep him off the street and out of death's way because he would be my blood. In a more tight-knit society, plenty of which has existed in times past, it would be easier for a Bernd to survive. There weren't always screens in every building and social media keeping people separated.
