The Odyssey was fascinating. Iliad was like a disjointed mess. Starts in the action and doesn't even end properly.

>Emily Wilson of course it sucks, man!!! anyways the iliad may not seem like the most straightforward reading experience but as you know it featured many characters from pre-existing greek stories. it feels disjointed because you're supposed to be aware of a ton of context that we don't have access to anymore. it is very probable that every seemingly minor character mentioned within the iliad had their own story or played significant parts in stories at some point, which is why literally everyone is listed. there was a reason alexander the great always kept a copy of the iliad on him rather than the odyssey.
