M. deliciosa can take advantage of the largest pot you can avail it, in good time. 5 gallons will enable it's leave to grow very large for a year or two. If you give it very bright, powerful light, as it would get in the tropics, in combination with the good nutrition and space for it's roots, it will produce delicioso fruits for you.
Or, you can cut it's old leaves off, pull it out of the pot it's in, hack most of the rootwad off, dump out the old dirt and put in new delicious dirt, and some fertilizer, and watch it grow young and vigorous for at least ans months before it fills the pot with roots against.
or you could just give it the fertilizer, and it will grow even more roots to fill up that little pot with.
