What are you giving up for Lent? Thinking energy drinks, but I already can easily do away with those and have been working on it, giving up caffeine or masturbating would be much harder

God is based. But as I say. If he wants me to do something. He can just ask. Since he don’t. I don’t. As far as being Catholic Lutheran. Is this some sort of mental gymnastics?

>>25555055 I was baptized as a Catholic and most funerals and weddings in my family are Catholic I attended Lutheran Sunday school and my father considers himself a Lutheran if anything, so when he went through a religious phase I learned the Lutheran flavor of Christianity The two biggest denominations in my state are Lutheran followed by Catholic

>>25555106 Every Catholic Church I went to felt like stuck up assholes. Like they’re doing you a favor for their service. Stay away from ECLA Lutherans. All raging faggots. Others are okay I guess. Just know if your Church is just boomers. It’s a death cult and not with the teachings of God.

I was thinking on following the Church's suggestion for fasting but I think is too loose (half a breakfast, normal lunch without meat and soup for dinner), usually I eat a lot but I tried fasting last thursday by accident (I forgot my keys and stayed at an empty apartment that night) I didn't have breakfast the next day and had to energy to lift weight and almost passed out but in generally the sensation is bearable, so I'm considering skipping breakfast instead of the half breakfast. We are supposed to keep doing our normal activities but I don't think I can work out the same as when I've had breakfast.

>>25554788 Jesus fasted for 40 days in the desert, where he was tempted by the devil. We Christians use Lent to remember the fasting of Our Lord and to get closer to him with the mortifying of the flesh. >>25554793 >>25555106 You can't be Catholic and [X], no one can serve two masters.

>>25556168 I don’t think it’s a good idea to lift or do hardcore long distance running while doing a water fast, I guess I’d probably follow church guidelines and just lift to keep up the habit than expecting gains I’ll be water fasting with electrolytes because I want to lose weight anyway, but historically water fasts were rare and a vegetarian meal or bone broth constituted the fast. The issue is that you lose sodium when water fasting and salt was a luxury item back then, they had to eat something for any lengthy fast, so given that perspective it isn’t any less of a fast if you follow their guidelines. I think too that in the past it was more an endurance challenge with small vegetarian meals than a single day or two of no eating whatsoever, probably out of necessity as they just emerged out of winter lean on supplies

>>25556210 Catholics in my family were observant enough to have little Catholic knickknacks and rosaries but not Catholic enough to ensure I got confirmed, their fault I guess, the purpose of this isn’t to prove piety I just so happen to practice fasting and Lent lines up nicely with my schedule

>>25556245 I think there were some monasteries were they fasted on beer only, it's a liquid but hypercaloric so it worked for them. There are also people recently that have tried Jesus fast of 40 days but they were consuming electrolytes and were monitored by doctors. >>25556269 >their fault I guess To a certain extent, yes parents are responsible for the spiritual upbringing of their children but c'mon how old are you? You seem to be enough knowledgeable to apostate for Protestantism but not completely as if wanting to retain that identity of your Catholic heritage, as if it were biological heritage that can be split between different ethnicities. i.e. you are old enough to discern between two opposing religions, you can read Luther's Thesis and the Catechism of the Catholic Church and make up your mind. For being Catholic you need to have been baptized, to embrace the full faith and live up to the sacraments you would need the First Communion, to be able to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation, which will allow you to receive the Eucharist, the true Body and Blood of Our Lord making your own body into a living Tabernacle.
