farmers want to only grow one crop forever, which is quite the opposite of what the art of farming is supposed to be. they then want the consumer to adapt to their strategy of doing as little farming as possible, and make all their food out of maize.
the number of known edible plants is in the tens of thousands; as a species, humans have an exceptionally broad range of plants that they can safely eat. yet all the plebs get in their troughs is corn slop, even though they obviously don't thrive on this feed and require expensive medical interventions to remain reasonably useful. a neo-physiocratic revolution is long overdue

Not really, no. The problem with HFCS is that it's in EVERYTHING (at least here in the US). If you go buy a burger it's in the ketchup of course but also in the bun and meat patty. I wouldn't be surprised if it's also in the cheese and mayo. If you get a pizza, it's in the dough and sauce and meats, and probably the cheese as well. Corporations fill all fast and prepared foods with sweetener to get us to buy them, and the cheapest sweetener right now is HFCS. If table sugar (which is literally half fructose anyway) was less expensive, they'd be putting that in there instead.

it is known that in the human gut, sucrose is absorbed more efficiently than glucose or fructose alone, which is difficult to explain because the cleaving of sucrose by sucrase happens in the lumen of the gut. one hypothesis is that there is a transporter that uses a molecule of glucose and a molecule of fructose as substrate. another is that there might be a receptor for sucrose that upregulates absorption of glucose and fructose. the key takeaway here is that the science of human physiology does not even have an answer for this very basic problem, so a lot of nutrition advice that claims to be based on science actually isn't. the progress of research has been lagging far behind the ambitions of "nutrition scientists", many of the enzymes at play have not even been elucidated. it goes without saying then that their variability in different individuals has not been studied, making general, let alone personalized advice impossible.
add to this that the gut has more neurons than the spinal cord and its activity is largely neurally regulated, and techniques to study this regulation do not exist and would probably present extreme difficulties even if vivisection was legal. and this is just the human physiology part, let's not forget that there is a few kilograms of microbes in the digestive system the composition of which is known to vary wildly between populations and individuals, and which react very differently to various inputs. basically it's impossible to make an educated guess at optimal nutrition even having sequenced someone's genome and cultured their gut flora.
tldr this branch of soyence is especially full of shit

it's cheaper and better to just drink fermented dairy products, concentrated supplements taste like spoilage and they're more likely to be ruined by improper storage, they also contain less media that sustains the bacteria. but when choosing dairy products it is important to be aware of which bacteria can persist in the gut and which cannot. for example, yogurt bacteria are incapable of persisting in the gut, while lactobacillus acidophilus and some others is capable of persisting for about two weeks. you probably don't have a broad range of sour dairy drinks on the decadent west so what you can do instead is make your own by using your supplement as a starter culture
