Brave, Opera, Vivaldi, Edge are all Chromium based. So they count als "Chrome". I just checked it with my Vivaldi browser.

So they start doing what Google und Chrome does for years already... Google is an advertising company and with Manifest V3 adblocker will be removed. Clever :3

I'll switch to ungoogled Chromium as my main browser. Right now, I just use it to watch porn hosted on my home server, but it's a very very good browser, probably the best in the market right now. It supports all the latest browser features like hardware-accelerated x265 decoding that Firefox doesn't (out of the box at least), and it's very light in terms of resource usage. As in, it uses about 50%-75% of the RAM that normal Chrome does.
There's no reason not to use ungoogled Chromium tbh.

I'm just using Firefox these days because of nostalgia and habit. It's fat, slow, doesn't support a lot of features like Passkeys, AND spies on me and advertises to me by default.
I'll migrate all my settings to ungoogled Chromium tomorrow. It's just that the process to install extensions on it is a pain in the ass.

Yeah, install ublock origin. It still supports manifest v2 and I think will continue to do so forever. So you can install ublock origin from its repo as a manifest v2 extension, which works very well. Maybe Brave blocks ads better because its blocker is built into the browser, but I don't know, and ublock origin is more than good enough.

It's unreal how dedicated to faggotry Mozilla is. They're eagerly willing to go bankrupt supporting faggots. All the while not improving anything about the browser or implementing modern browser features for years.

Google will stop paying them if their market share goes to near-zero. Google pays them based on how many people use Firefox and therefore how many people would be given Google as the default search engine. Firefox's market share declines every year, and they keep making the product worse. It's only a matter of time. They tried other forms of monetization to counteract that decline, but those efforts failed.
Mozilla's revenue from its deal with Google fell in 2023 and probably 2024. Its revenue from it's other poor attempts at making money also fell. See page 4 of this https://assets.mozilla.net/annualreport/2024/mozilla-fdn-2023-fs-final-short-1209.pdf

It's beneficial for google to have "competition" and not be considered a monopoly. What they're paying is just pocket change for them anyway.

Does Mozilla want to lose most of the global market?
I mean, there are more countries banning sell of personal data by foreign companies than those which doesn't.
Would they risk Firefox getting banned by law in those countries and thus them losing most of the global market?

The point is that if Firefox's market share continues to fall lower than its 3% market share, Mozilla will no longer be useful for Google as a tool for claiming they're not a monopoly. So Google's incentive to keep them alive will go away if people keep leaving Firefox.
