bandera wanted to go to institute in lviv, but poles implemented jim crow tier laws for the 'minorities' (i.e. populations that were conquered and the jews) in poland, hence he couldn't. maybe if he did, upa(b) wouldn't exist. not a very smart of the polish government. his organization rose to prominence after the first the soviets came to the western ukraine and killed tons of socialists and nationalists there and then the german nazis came and killed tons of communists, some nationalists and socialists (again). so upa (b), which wasn't prominent before, basically just filled the gap. that being said, he spent most of the war and time prior to it in prisons/camps. polish and german. he's ultimately more of a figurehead. but the thing is that he wanted to create ukraine as a western ukraine thing. his nationalism was very localized and focused on the realities on his area. upa (b) didn't really think globally (which is logical, since they were mostly common folk that were oppressed and had enough, not really politicians or huge ideologists), unlike other upa and other national movements.
