fishing is literally free food
and a high quality food too, fish are healthy
so why don't people just go fish instead of frequenting supermarkets? You can literally catch 1 fish and you have a whole day of eating provided for 0€

getting a license is annoying and quite expensive (at least in France). Also, most people live in the city, we would need to drive for over an hour to find the nearest stream or lake with fish. The gas cost would be more than the fish cost.

The origin of the fish is always listed. Mostly salmon is farmed, which is why I avoid it.
There is no farmed pure sweet water fish like pike perch, the ones I buy are usually from net fishing in lake Bolmen or Åsnen, which are quite nearby to me.

Here the hydro power plants cause the fish to go extinct because they can't go to their breeding-grounds. They build fish-passes at the hydro plants but how a fish supposed to know how to use them? In my opinion it's mostly symbolic and doesn't work and greens/leftist can feel good.
