Are digital goods really your property if the company can just change the terms of use after you buy them?
Why not just pirate everything in that case?

I was about to buy a Kindle Paperwhite.
Good thing I haven't bought it so far.
Is the Onyx Boox Page the best even though more expensive alternative?

If you are tech illiterate then you must own nothing and be happy in the digital age. Or just buy real books. I only have DRM-free epubs on my Kobo and I never fucked with ebooks from Amazon

Intellectual property doesn’t exist. They can even shut down you device remotely and they forbid you to reverse engineering your device. They can remove all your books in the device included that you there throw USB/wifi.
so go to libgen, flibusta, anna-archivhe and pirate

The products continue to be produced, they're lowering in quality as you lose the ability to own the next version.

as I remember Kigdel was cheaper because of build-in ad. But if you were in Russian you could just right to Pajeet in support and Pajeet would tern the advertisement off

Buy cheapest model ad-supported model, do not update firmware, jailbreak, load up MOBI files via USB cable. Yes, they sell these devices at a loss, just like old Sony did with old PS3. American women who use Kindles quickly rack up the difference with vampire smut they buy off Bezos's online shop.

These days you own nothing and you will be happy. That is what they are telling you.
Do not buy anything with DRM (or rather don't pay for digital goods at all if possible) and never trust a company to store your data. Only locally stored files with no DRM are something you can own.
I got my e-reader second hand and pirated all the content I read on it. The device has never even been connected to the internet since I got it. I just transfer books on it with microSD card.

Just print all your books on paper and create your own library. At least the companies can't wipe off the ink from your paper remotely.

Online you can find almost any book for free. Finding the books you want in print might be impossible and/or very expensive.

Better start campaigning and advocating for legislation shift.
The madness, especially the copyright madness, should just be stopped.
It's basically the same as robbery, or slavery, or a trial by a duel, or torture, and many other things that were eventually recognized to be too insane to be allowed in a civilized society.

Kobo ist best.
100 bucks more expensive than an apparently similar device from another company,
but the software is waaayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy better, and they don't play such tricks as Amazon does on you.

I read a lot.
Bought them since 2010 or so.
Every couple of years new ones that seemed better came out, so I bought them, and I prefer to have a "fancy" one at the desk at home and some lower quality "spare" for reading outside the house (where it could be damaged or stolen).
Also, earlier generations had weak CPUs, searching, marking, using dictionaries etc. took a long time.
Display tech also become better, including the lighting.
I just love those things, I still wear trousers that I bought a quarter century ago, but I fancy Eraders for some reason.

Best value per buck is probably a used Kobo Aura One, if you can find it.
Current models are all nice, I'd get a Kobo Sage.
Color isn't worth it except you really need it,
because colors are not really good yet with the current tech and have the big disadvantage that the monochrome mode for normal reading has lower resolution and contrast ("pixels" for color are next to the normal pixels, so there must be less of those).

It still pisses me off that these devices have not passed Doherty threshold. 900 ms page turns are still the norm. Powerful processor and newer betterer screen (single manufacturer, no competition) promise marginal refresh speed improvement, but are offset by slower software. And nobody among hundreds of reviewers collects any meaningful benchmarks in this area.

why is this even phrased as a question, nobody said it was your property, you were always buying a license
if you want to own digital goods as property, you have to buy shares in the company that owns the copyright

People don't realize how long that scam has been going on. The only caveat with physical media was the lack of a practical way to remove access in some cases (like books) but they perfected that with digital delivery. You are still not legally allowed to photocopy an entire physical book and distribute it. You aren't allowed to make copies of a music CD or video game installer and sell them or give them out to friends who never bought the legitimate product. People have been prosecuted over this.
Intellectual "property" as a whole is a FUCKING JEWISH SCAM.
