First it's important to formulate the end goals clearly.
Then depending on the goals we can tell if something is "good" or "bad".
Who knows, maybe it's good to nuke Russia right now. Or maybe it's good to go full buddy-buddy with Putin.
All depends on the goals.
The thing is there're several families with vested interests in Ukraine.
And there are some groups in The Deep State with some ideas about Russia (though they're actually very few in number as it's not The Cold War anymore).
But there's no clear goal regarding either Ukraine or Russia from the perspective of America as a nation.
Also, "kill everybody and sit alone on the planet" is a common goal shared by every nation, but it's not a real goal as it doesn't tell "what for".
Generally people want wealth, fame, power, comfort, entertainment, and so on. And "killing everybody" doesn't align with either of those basic desires.
