Centuries old doesn't mean that it's wrong. It won't have any chemistry but they knew quite a bit about math and physics back then. It will give you a good amount of general knowledge without boring you to the ground.
Once you read his encyclopedia you can read a modern one, focusing on modern history (since you now know all you need to know about old history and basic science). if you really wanna learn chemistry you can find some in a modern one too.
