ITT Bernds argue about plugs. OP asked about sockets. British sockets are better. Because they have switches as standard. EU sockets do not. Not to mention half of their plugs don't come with proper earthing, it's no wonder that they suffer far more electrical fires than we do. As inspiration for the downtrodden slavish continentals, here is what a good plug and plug socket looks like. Note that the socket has a SWITCH so that you do not have to rely on chinkesium soldering to turn your appliance off.
